Creating a letterhead in a Microsoft Word document.

There may be times when you want to just print a document off quickly without the hassle of loading up the printer tray with your commercially printed letter headed paper.
This simple tutorial will show you how to create your own letterhead in Microsoft Word using your own company logo.

First of all you will need your logo saved as a PNG file at 300dpi and also set at the correct size before placing into Word.
From inside a Microsoft Word document choose VIEW > HEADER AND FOOTER. Then choose INSERT > PICTURE > FROM FILE and browse for the PNG file version of your logo.

To position your graphic into the correct place, select the graphic, then choose FORMAT > PICTURE from the main menu. Click on the layout tab and then select “behind text”.

step 3
Next click on advanced and change the “absolute positioning” figures to suit. In my example, I chose to select 16.84 from the left of the ‘page’, from the horizontal section. Also adjust the vertical settings to suit.

step 4
Once you’re satisfied with the positioning, go to VIEW > HEADER AND FOOTER again to set the page back to its default setting. The logo will appear a bit fainter than before, this is to indicate that it’s part of the “Header and Footer”, but it will still print out correctly. It also prevents other people moving the image by mistake.

Finally save the page as a Microsoft Word Template.
