How to design your own simple logo using Adobe Illustrator

logo image
1.

For this example we'll just use the word "Logo". Select the type tool and set the size to 72pt.

The font that I used for this example is ‘Impact’, but you can use any font that you like. I recommend that you stick with a simple font with no serifs to start with.

2.

Using one of the selection tools, select the word and then from the main menu select TYPE>CREATE OUTLINES
From the main menu click VIEW>OUTLINE and your text should look like this…

3.

Press A on the keyboard to bring up the "direct selection tool" (white arrow).
Drag a box around the lower points of the first letter, as shown. While this is still selected, press the ‘down arrow’ key from the keyboard, to nudge the selection down.

4.

You should end up with something like this. If not press CTRL+Z to undo the changes and try again.

5.

Using the same selection methods as step 3 drag a box around the points on the "L" as shown, then hit the delete key.

6.

You should be left with the "L" minus it's bottom left section.

7.

Using the ‘Pen’ tool, press ‘P’ and then click on the bottom of the ‘L’ and draw a curvy line under the whole word.

8.

This is how I decided I wanted mine to look, but you may come up with something different.

Select VIEW/PREVIEW from the main menu and LOGO word should now appear solid instead of an outline.

Now select the whole word again using the Selection tool and click a colour of your choice from the colour swatch.

9.

Select the whole word and then from the main menu select OBJECT>PATH>OFFSET PATH.
